Jaipur, June 3 (NationPress) A significant operation has dismantled a racket involving the repackaging and sale of expired and counterfeit seeds in Sri Ganganagar, initiated by Rajasthan Agriculture Minister Dr. Kirodi Lal Meena.

The raid, carried out in the RIICO industrial area, revealed substantial quantities of fake seeds being prepared for distribution through misleading tactics such as repackaging into new bags and repainting to simulate freshness.

On Tuesday, the Minister arrived in Sri Ganganagar to oversee a high-profile raid on numerous seed warehouses and factories, including Shankar Seeds, Shakti Seeds, and Harvester Food.

The entire operation was conducted discreetly, with the Minister personally overseeing the investigations. At Harvester Food, officials found expired seeds being repackaged and sprayed with paint to mask their true condition.

Similar suspicious documents and seed samples were collected from Shankar Seeds and Shakti Seeds, which have been sent for laboratory testing.

In a statement to the media, Minister Meena remarked, “The state government maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards those engaged in the distribution of fake seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides. Individuals attempting to exploit the hard work of our farmers will face stringent legal consequences.”

He emphasized that the sale of counterfeit seeds not only diminishes crop yields but also threatens the livelihoods of numerous farmers.

An FIR is anticipated to be filed based on the collected evidence. This action marks another instance of Minister Meena's direct involvement.

On May 29 and 30, he spearheaded raids in Kishangarh, Ajmer, inspecting 12 factories and sealing five. One facility in Udaipur Kalan was found producing counterfeit DAP, SAP, and potassium fertilizers. In an audacious move, the Minister conducted the raid himself in a tempo vehicle to ensure confidentiality.

The raids culminated in the seizure of a full-scale counterfeit fertilizer production unit. Authorities are intensifying their investigations and advising farmers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious products.

The Agriculture Department has also gathered numerous seed samples for lab analysis and is committed to implementing prompt punitive actions against offenders.
