Hardoi (Uttar Pradesh), May 20 (NationPress) A significant attempt to derail two express trains, including the Rajdhani Express, was successfully thwarted in Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi district due to the vigilance and swift actions of the loco pilots, officials reported on Tuesday.

The initial incident took place on the evening of May 19 between Dalel Nagar and Umrauli stations when the loco pilot of the New Delhi-bound Rajdhani Express observed an unusual obstruction on the tracks.

Authorities revealed that culprits had affixed a wooden block, referred to as a gutkha, to the earthing wire on the down line. The pilot promptly applied the brakes, halting the train and preventing a potential catastrophe.

Railway personnel swiftly cleared the obstruction and alerted senior railway officials. However, before the situation could fully stabilize, the miscreants made another attempt.

Shortly after the Rajdhani Express had safely passed, a second plot was uncovered aimed at derailing the Kathgodam Express along the same route. This attempt was also foiled thanks to the sharp eye of its loco pilot, who detected the obstruction—this time consisting of iron pieces and wood—and halted the train just in time.

Upon receiving the alert, members of the Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), and local police rushed to the location to initiate an investigation.

Circle Officer (CO) of Baghauli, Praveen Kumar, stated that the GRP had notified Kachhauna police station regarding suspicious activities on the tracks between Kachhauna and Sandila. Acting on this tip-off, teams from both police stations, along with senior officials, performed a site inspection.

Following directives from higher authorities, a joint investigation team was established to probe the incidents.

This is not the first occurrence of such attempts in the area. Recently, there have been several incidents in Hardoi where unidentified individuals attempted to sabotage railway operations.

In one case, iron bolts were discovered placed on the tracks near the outer signal of Hardoi railway station.

In another instance, a large wooden block was found on the line close to Dilawar Nagar. In both situations, timely detection averted potential disasters.

Despite ongoing efforts, police have yet to apprehend anyone in connection with these sabotage attempts.

Point of View

The need for increased vigilance and preventive measures is paramount. The railway authorities must collaborate closely with law enforcement to ensure the safety of passengers and maintain public trust in rail travel.
