New Delhi, March 1 (NationPress) Two suspects have been apprehended for allegedly trying to derail the Doon Express on the Lucknow-Bareilly railway line.
The incident occurred beneath the Pihani Road Overbridge in Hardoi on Saturday.
Unidentified individuals placed an iron net and stones on the railway tracks in an attempt to derail the Doon Express. Fortunately, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Kotwali Dehat Police were alerted in time and arrived at the scene to avert a possible disaster.
Forensic teams were summoned to gather fingerprints and additional evidence.
During the investigation, two suspects were caught at the scene. Reports suggest that the railway track and the engine experienced some damage. The Doon Express was delayed for over 30 minutes before it could continue its journey. Circle Officer (CO) Ankit Mishra confirmed that the suspects were taken into custody for questioning.
The locomotive pilot examined the track and the train engine before carefully proceeding to Hardoi railway station. Upon arrival, the train manager handed over the detained suspects, both minors, to the RPF.
As word of the incident circulated, Additional Superintendent of Police (East) N Kumar and forensic experts arrived at the site to conduct a thorough investigation.
According to reports, at 7:45 a.m., the control room alerted the RPF in Hardoi that the loco pilot of train number 13010 had noticed an iron object on the track. The object impacted the train's wheels, prompting immediate action.
Upon investigation, RPF officials discovered several damage points on the railway track, specifically between kilometre markers 1177/08 and 1177/12. A small broken steel bolt was also located nearby. The matter was promptly reported to SSC PWI Hardoi, Safaq Khan, for further technical evaluation.
This incident has heightened concerns over ongoing attempts to compromise railway infrastructure. Authorities are now undertaking a comprehensive probe into the situation.
