In a post on the social media platform X, Rajnath Singh expressed, "Honoring the legacy of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw on his birth anniversary. A monumental figure in India's military history, whose extraordinary leadership, valor, and strategic insight played a pivotal role in shaping key moments for the nation."
He added, "Sam Bahadur" epitomized the essence of a genuine Soldiers' General, earning the steadfast trust and admiration of his soldiers.
"His (Sam Manekshaw's) enduring values of bravery, integrity, and commitment continue to serve as an inspiration for future generations," the Defence Minister remarked.
The Indian Army also paid its respects to the legendary Field Marshal.
In a message shared on social media, the Indian Army stated, "Remembering the Legend... We honor Field Marshal SHFJ Manekshaw, MC, widely recognized as #SamBahadur, on his 112th #BirthAnniversary."
"The 8th #COAS, who was also India's Field Marshal, was instrumental in orchestrating the nation's decisive triumph against Pakistan during the 1971 War. His enchanting leadership, strategic acumen, and timeless humor continue to inspire every soldier in India," the Army conveyed in its social media post.
Last year, in a bid to nurture patriotism and convey lessons on courage and sacrifice, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) introduced a dedicated chapter on Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw.
This initiative was part of a larger effort to weave the legacy of the National War Memorial into educational curricula.
The life and contributions of this military icon will now be included in the curriculum for Class VIII (English), Class VIII (Urdu), and Class VII (Urdu), as stated by the Ministry of Defence.
"This new chapter aims to present students with inspiring tales of valor, leadership, and duty. Field Marshal Manekshaw, recognized as India's first officer to attain the rank of Field Marshal, is celebrated for his strategic genius and leadership during the 1971 Indo-Pak war," the statement noted.
