Rajsamand (Rajasthan), Feb 28 (NationPress) For numerous inhabitants of Rajasthan's Rajsamand, the aspiration of acquiring a pucca (permanent) home appeared unattainable for many years. Nonetheless, the launch of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in 2015 has turned this aspiration into a tangible reality, providing hope to families who have long battled with temporary shelters.

The PMAY, which initially set out to ensure housing for everyone by 2022, has undergone significant transformations over the years, allowing beneficiaries to construct their own homes on land they already possess.

With financial support of up to Rs 1.5 lakh, the initiative has furnished both monetary assistance and the emotional encouragement required to initiate the process of building a permanent residence.

For the residents of Rajsamand, this program has been revolutionary. Although the Rs 1.5 lakh subsidy might seem modest in the broader context of home construction, it has given many families the crucial impetus to commence building their homes.

Beneficiaries, who previously faced challenges with inadequate housing, are now openly expressing their sincere appreciation for the aid they have received.

In an interview with IANS, Ganesh Lal Suthar, a recipient of the program, recounted his journey: “Previously, I lived in a kutcha house, but now, thanks to the PMAY, my home is nearly finished. The government’s assistance has been priceless. The financial support, combined with my hard work and family help, has enabled me to complete the construction of my house. While some work remains, I am optimistic that my dream home will soon be fully ready.”

Shankarlal Suthar, another beneficiary stated, “Before, I resided in a mud house. The grant of Rs 1.5 lakh allowed me to tear it down and build a new residence. Although some work is still in progress, the government’s support has made it feasible for me to advance. The PMAY has been a godsend for individuals like me who lacked the means to build a home independently.”

Sunita Sahu, a female beneficiary, also expressed her gratitude for the program.

“I possessed an empty plot, but with a loan of Rs 2 lakh from the government, I was able to commence constructing my home. This scheme has genuinely empowered individuals who once believed that homeownership was beyond their reach. Thanks to PMAY, my dream of having a permanent residence is finally materializing.”

The PMAY, inaugurated on June 25, 2015, is a part of the government’s ambitious objective to ensure housing for all in urban locales.

The initiative aspires to provide central assistance to states and Union Territories for constructing homes for qualifying families, targeting the establishment of approximately 1.12 crore houses. While the minimum area for a house under PMAY is fixed at 30 square meters, states have the discretion to increase this according to local requirements.
