Mumbai, March 20 (NationPress) Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Thursday during a session of the Legislative Assembly that the esteemed 'Maharashtra Bhushan' award for 2024, which is the highest civilian accolade in the state, will be awarded to the illustrious sculptor Ram Sutar.
“This award includes a cash prize of Rs 25 lakh, a citation, a plaque, and a shawl. Even at the remarkable age of 100, Ram Sutar continues to create sculptures. He is presently engaged in crafting the grand memorial of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, which is underway at Indu Mill. The selection committee chose him for the 'Maharashtra Bhushan' award during their meeting on March 12, recognizing his unparalleled contributions,” stated the Chief Minister.
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed his congratulations to Ram Sutar, highlighting his significant contributions to the nation’s identity by creating the world’s tallest statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. "He is a true master in the realm of sculpture. Heartfelt congratulations to Kalamaharshi Sutar, whose artistic endeavors have enhanced the prestige of Indian culture and traditions. A salute to his artistic accomplishments," he remarked.
Praising Ram Sutar, a globally renowned sculptor who has made remarkable strides in the art world, Shinde added: "The state government’s decision to honor Ram Sutar with the Maharashtra Bhushan 2024 is fitting for someone who, despite being 100 years old, creates sculptures that seem to breathe life from clay. His dedication, commitment to his craft, and unwavering resolve are the cornerstones of his success. His legacy will inspire countless generations ahead.”
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar also extended his congratulations to the illustrious sculptor upon receiving the 'Maharashtra Bhushan'.
"This recognition embodies the profound admiration of the 130 million residents of Maharashtra. This honor serves as a radiant tribute to the state’s rich history, art, and cultural legacy,” he remarked.
“Sutar has crafted hundreds of sculptures globally, each a testament to beauty and artistry. His representations of prominent figures like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel have vividly resurrected India’s historical narrative," Pawar noted.
“The Statue of Unity in Gujarat, the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the Indian Parliament, the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Delhi, and the ongoing statue of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar at Chaityabhoomi in Dadar—each of these creations not only showcases his artistic brilliance but also reflects his profound respect for these iconic personalities,” added Pawar.
