Ranjit Savarkar Responds to Rahul Gandhi's Claims on Historical Compromises

New Delhi, Dec 15 (NationPress) Ranjit Savarkar, the great-grandson of ‘Veer’ Savarkar, addressed the recent comments made by Rahul Gandhi concerning the freedom fighter during a Lok Sabha session. He also shed light on what he described as “the world’s greatest honey trap.”

In light of Rahul Gandhi’s ongoing personal critiques of Savarkar, Ranjit Savarkar argued that these remarks are aimed at polarizing Muslim votes, given Savarkar's significant role in the Hindutva movement. He stated, “Rahul Gandhi is attempting to portray Savarkar as a Manuvadi. He believes that by speaking negatively about Savarkar, he can garner support from Muslims,” adding, “I foresee that such comments and misleading narratives will persist.”

During the Lok Sabha session, Rahul Gandhi, who serves as the Leader of the Opposition, remarked, “When you speak about defending the Constitution, you are ridiculing Savarkar; you are abusing Savarkar; you are defaming Savarkar.”

On the subject of historical deals with the British, Ranjit Savarkar asserted that it was Nehru who made compromises for power and to maintain amicable relations with Britain, recounting the events surrounding India's Independence. He stated, “It's about being an agent [of the British],” adding that Nehru betrayed the nation for personal gain.

Further elucidating his point, he referred to letters included in the book 'Daughter of Empire: My Life as a Mountbatten', authored by Pamela Hicks, Lord Mountbatten’s daughter. This book reveals correspondence between Lady Mountbatten and Nehru over a span of 11 to 12 years following Independence.

He highlighted that Mountbatten retained his position as India’s first Governor General while Jinnah took on the role in the newly established Pakistan. According to him, “only the first and last paragraphs of the letters were romantic; the rest consisted of Nehru’s diary.”

Ranjit Savarkar characterized this situation as “the world’s greatest honey trap operation – making the Prime Minister your agent for 12 years, with all vital information being relayed to Lady Mountbatten.”

As the Chairman of the Swatantryaveer Savarkar Rashtriya Smarak, Ranjit Savarkar recently faced allegations of labeling Mahatma Gandhi as casteist.

He argued that Gandhi promoted the caste system, asserting that individuals should stick to their caste-related professions, interpreting this as a restriction on opportunities for those outside their designated roles. “The Constitution grants us the right to select our profession,” he stated to IANS.

When asked about the relevance of Ambedkar, Gandhi, and Savarkar in contemporary politics, he maintained that both Ambedkar and Savarkar share similar ideologies that are “most relevant” today, while concluding that “Gandhi’s thoughts are currently the most irrelevant.”
