Lucknow, March 16 (NationPress) A man, accused of raping a six-year-old girl, was apprehended on Sunday after a confrontation with law enforcement in Lucknow.
The incident took place in the Vibhuti Khand Police Station area while the suspect was attempting to escape the city by waiting for a train.
A police representative indicated that on the night of March 15 and 16, Vibhuti Khand Police Station received information that the accused, known as Mohammed Sarju, was located in Kharagpur.
“Multiple police units were organized to locate the suspect. When authorities ordered him to surrender, Sarju began firing at the police. He sustained a leg injury from the police’s return fire. Sarju was subsequently captured and transported to CHC Hospital for medical attention,” the official stated.
Forensic teams have been dispatched to the scene, the official added.
It is important to note that the victim, a second-grade student, was assaulted on Saturday.
The young girl, who lived with her parents in the servant quarters, was deceived and assaulted by Sarju.
Following the family’s report, law enforcement registered a case under applicable sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence (POCSO) Act.
The victim was admitted to the Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences in Lucknow.
Authorities confirmed that the victim recognized Sarju while receiving treatment at the hospital.
The suspect was apprehended within six hours of the incident.
He will be interrogated after being discharged from the hospital.
In a related incident last week, a 14-year-old Dalit girl was reportedly kidnapped, abused, and gang-raped in Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad district. The individuals involved in that case have been taken into custody.
