New Delhi, Feb 17 (NationPress) Senior Congress leader Rashid Alvi on Monday underscored the necessity for a detailed inquiry into the US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) issue.

This comes in the wake of a controversy involving DOGE, led by billionaire Elon Musk, regarding allegations that it had revoked $21 million in US funds aimed at swaying voter turnout in India.

The disclosure has triggered intense reactions, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's close aide, Sanjeev Sanyal, calling the USAID agency “the largest scam in human history.”

In an interview with IANS, Rashid Alvi stated, “A comprehensive investigation is essential to reveal the truth. Nonetheless, I suspect the funds were directed towards the BJP. It is common knowledge, except for the Election Commission of India (ECI), that BJP candidates distributed substantial amounts of money during the Delhi elections.

“So, where did this funding originate? If such allegations are surfacing from the US, the situation becomes even more alarming. An inquiry into the source of this money, the means through which it arrived in Delhi, and the recipients is necessary.

Alvi also questioned, “How did it get into India? Why didn’t Prime Minister Narendra Modi address this issue during his recent US visit? Why didn’t he discuss it with US President Donald Trump? This matter should have been addressed.”

Alvi also commented on the Congress party's slight increase in vote share in Delhi and deliberated on whether the party should contest elections independently or in partnership.

“The most significant threat to our nation today stems from forces that are eroding the Constitution and democracy, thereby weakening the country. Just today, the head of the RSS made a statement urging Hindus to unite, which could further fragment the country and undermine the Constitution.

“Other communities may also feel pressured to unite in reaction. This is why the Congress must work in alliance to defeat the BJP. Whether it’s the elections in Bihar or other states, we must fortify India by collaborating with our allies and ensuring the BJP’s defeat,” he concluded.
