New Delhi, Feb 24 (NationPress) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, along with her team of ministers, took the oath as members of the Legislative Assembly on Monday. The inaugural session of the Assembly began this morning, witnessing all newly-elected legislators taking their oaths.
Alongside the Chief Minister, the BJP ministers—Parvesh Verma, Ashish Sood, Kapil Mishra, Ravinder Singh Indraj, Pankaj Kumar Singh, and Manjinder Singh Sirsa—also took their oaths.
Additionally, 22 MLAs from AAP, including the Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, Atishi, participated in the oath-taking ceremony during this initial session.
Rekha Gupta had previously taken the oath as Delhi's Chief Minister on Thursday during a grand ceremony at Ramlila Maidan. This swearing-in ceremony, which marked the BJP's return after a 27-year hiatus, was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and several Chief Ministers from BJP-ruled states.
This event was not just a political milestone but a demonstration of strength for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
With this appointment, Rekha Gupta has become the fourth woman Chief Minister of Delhi, following the legacies of Sheila Dikshit, Sushma Swaraj, and Atishi.
She is also the fourth BJP leader to occupy this prominent position in the capital, succeeding Madan Lal Khurana, Sahib Singh Verma, and Sushma Swaraj.
The inaugural session of the Delhi Assembly is scheduled to last for three days.
The proceedings commenced with BJP MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely being sworn in as the pro-tem Speaker, a temporary role responsible for overseeing House proceedings until a permanent Speaker is elected. Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Vinai Kumar Saxena administered the oath to Lovely at Raj Niwas.
The election for the Assembly Speaker is set to occur at 2:00 p.m.
As per the Assembly bulletin, L-G Saxena is expected to address the House on February 25, after which the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports will be presented.
