Revelation of Extensive Corruption Scheme in Srinagar Smart City Initiative, Reports J&K ACB

Jammu, Jan 10 (NationPress) The J&K Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) disclosed on Friday that it has initiated an investigation into a substantial corruption scheme linked to two senior officials of the Srinagar Smart City Initiative (SSCI), who are suspected of amassing considerable wealth through unlawful activities.
During a virtual press briefing, SSP, ACB, Waheed Ahmad Shah, revealed that the bureau has received numerous complaints regarding the two implicated officers from the SSCI: Executive Engineer Zahoor Ahmed Dar, residing in Ghalibabad, Shalteng, Srinagar, and Chief Financial Officer Sajid Yousuf Bhat, a resident of Namlabal Pampore, currently living in Daulatabad, Khanyar, Srinagar.
Complainants have pointed out the extravagant lifestyles of these officers, which are significantly disproportionate to their reported sources of income.
"After a thorough investigation, the ACB has confirmed the allegations, filed FIRs against both individuals, and commenced search operations at various properties associated with them. Sajid Yousuf Bhat has been accused of owning a commercial property in Ram Bagh, Srinagar, valued much higher than indicated in the sale deed," he stated.
"The investigation has also revealed several bank accounts in his name showing suspicious transactions that are believed to be connected to corrupt activities. Executive Engineer Zahoor Ahmad Dar was discovered to possess a luxurious multi-storey house in Ghalibabad, Shalteng, along with a high-end sedan, and is suspected of engaging in questionable financial dealings in both his and his spouse's bank accounts," the SSP added.
The ACB has also identified illegal Fixed Deposit Receipts (FDRs) linked to him.
Both officials had been misusing their positions for personal gain, the SSP informed during the press conference.
He mentioned that the ACB's investigations are ongoing, with teams scrutinizing properties and financial documents to fully expose the corruption scheme. Throughout the day, ACB operatives conducted searches at six locations in Srinagar and Pulwama districts related to the two accused officials.
