Kolkata, Jan 17 (NationPress) On Saturday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) presented a new status report regarding its ongoing investigation into the alleged larger conspiracy connected to the rape and murder of a junior female doctor from the state-operated R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, which took place in August 2024, before a trial court located in Sealdah.
The most recent report submitted by the agency was back in November 2025. The parents of the victim voiced their dissatisfaction with the sluggish pace of the investigation into the supposed broader conspiracy surrounding the crime.
The attorney representing the victim's family argued that nearly a year has elapsed since the sole offender in the case, Sanjay Roy, a former civic volunteer associated with Kolkata Police, received a life sentence, yet the CBI has merely filed status reports without significant progress in the inquiry into the broader conspiracy.
According to the latest status report, the CBI indicated that since the last report was filed in November, investigators have taken statements from an additional 12 witnesses related to the case. Alongside the status report, the CBI also presented the case diary to the trial court.
The body of the junior doctor was discovered in the seminar hall of R.G. Kar on the morning of August 9, 2024. Initially, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) from Kolkata Police began the investigation and apprehended Sanjay Roy.
Subsequently, the CBI assumed control of the inquiry following an order from the Calcutta High Court.
Last year, the trial court sentenced Sanjay Roy to life imprisonment. Nevertheless, the CBI's investigation into the alleged broader conspiracy remains ongoing.
This case is currently being deliberated in both the trial court and the Calcutta High Court.
