Bhopal, Jan 31 (NationPress) Former Madhya Pradesh High Court Justice Rohit Arya stated on Thursday that 'One Nation One Election' serves the interests of the country's development and is well within the framework of the Constitution.
Justice (retired) Arya made this remark following the initial meeting of the Madhya Pradesh committee for 'One Nation One Election' held at the BJP headquarters here.
The BJP's central leadership has recently established the state's 'One Nation One Election' committee, with Justice (retired) Arya appointed as a coordinator alongside Madhya Pradesh BJP Chief V.D. Sharma.
Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava has been designated as a co-convenor.
In a media interaction after the meeting, Arya emphasized that public participation is essential for the successful implementation of 'One Nation One Election', and that a comprehensive awareness campaign is vital.
He elaborated that once the populace understands the benefits of the 'One Nation One Election' initiative, they would likely support it.
“It is crucial for the citizens to recognize that this initiative is beneficial for the nation's advancement,” he remarked.
Arya pointed out that the current staggered election system often keeps the elected Council of Ministers preoccupied, hindering their ability to prioritize the development agenda.
“This issue transcends any single party or state, affecting the entire country. The implementation of 'One Nation One Election' would enable Ministers and other officials to dedicate more time to the development of both their states and the nation,” Arya added.
When asked about the anticipated timeline for the implementation of the 'One Nation One Election' system, Arya mentioned, “Former President Ram Nath Kovind's report has advocated for the execution of the proposals by 2034. However, convincing every citizen of the nation is a prerequisite.”
In December of the previous year, the Union Cabinet approved Bills aimed at implementing this initiative.
Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava, a co-convenor for the Madhya Pradesh panel, noted last week that the BJP intends to facilitate discussions and lectures statewide to promote awareness about conducting simultaneous elections.
