Patna, Dec 1 (NationPress) A joyous wedding in Thanua village, located in the Shivsagar police station jurisdiction of Bihar’s Rohtas district, turned into a devastating incident on Monday morning when a tragic shooting occurred during the celebrations. The victim has been identified as Nandan Kumar Singh, the son of Vijay Bahadur Singh, a resident of Buxar district.
Nandan, a dedicated schoolteacher at Middle School in Vishrampur (Itahari block, Buxar), had come to celebrate his cousin’s marriage. At approximately 1 a.m. on Monday, he suffered grave gunshot wounds after being allegedly struck by rounds fired by unidentified individuals amidst the festivities.
His family quickly transported him to Narayan Medical College Hospital in Jamuhar, but he was later referred to Sasaram Sadar Hospital due to his critical state.
Unfortunately, Nandan succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment, casting a pall of grief over the family and the wedding guests.
Nandan’s cousin, Anupam Kumar Singh, has made serious accusations against the police, alleging that instead of apprehending the perpetrators right away, they detained around 10 members of the bride’s family for several hours, confiscated their mobile devices, and pressured them into resolving the matter.
“After the incident, instead of arresting those responsible, the police made us sit at the station, confiscated our phones, and pressured us to handle the case ourselves,” stated Anupam Kumar Singh.
This response has intensified the family’s frustration and raised concerns about the police's initial actions.
Upon being alerted, a team from the Shivsagar police arrived at the scene, took control of the body, and initiated a post-mortem examination. An investigation commenced under the guidance of Sadar DSP-2 Dilip Kumar.
Authorities have detained three primary suspects and recovered the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting.
Sasaram SDPO Dilip Kumar confirmed, “Three individuals have been apprehended in connection with the case. We have identified their associates, and operations are in progress to capture them. Technical evidence has been gathered from the crime scene, along with the weapon.”
