New Delhi, Dec 12 (NationPress) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended a former sub-Postmaster from Kerala who was on the run to avoid a jail sentence after being convicted of misappropriating Rs 2.73 lakh, an official reported on Friday.
The convict, Jayasree Rajkumar, who served as the Sub Postmaster at the Pulpally Sub Post Office in Wayanad District, was arrested in Kuttippuram, located in Malappuram District, as stated by the official.
Upon her presentation before the Court of Special Judge-II, CBI, Ernakulam, the judge ordered her remand to Central Prison, Thrissur, to serve her sentence, according to the statement.
The CBI initiated this case on September 22, 2003, against Rajkumar.
It was claimed that during her tenure as Sub-Postmaster from May 28, 2002, to March 26, 2003, she engaged in a criminal breach of trust, misappropriating a total of Rs 2,73,318 that was entrusted to her.
Following the investigation, the CBI submitted a charge sheet against her on February 6, 2004.
Rajkumar was convicted and initially sentenced to 3 years of Simple Imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 1 lakh by the Court of Special Judge-II, CBI, Ernakulam, in a ruling dated July 25, 2011.
Her appeal against the conviction was dismissed by the Kerala High Court, which modified her sentence to 18 months and increased the fine to Rs 1.50 lakh in a judgment dated September 8, 2025.
The Court revoked the bail previously granted to her and mandated that she surrender at the special court to serve her sentence.
However, she failed to comply with the court's directive and absconded.
The Special CBI Court subsequently issued a Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW) against her. After diligent efforts, the CBI successfully located and arrested her on Friday in Kuttippuram.
