New Delhi, Dec 13 (NationPress) Union Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya M. Scindia praised the steadfast commitment of postal workers, referring to postmen as trust bridges who facilitate the delivery of not only letters but also vital banking, insurance, and government services to households across India.
Speaking at a large assembly of about 6,000 Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) from the Goa and Pune regions during the Gramin Dak Sevak Sammelan in Kolhapur, he emphasized their crucial role in linking rural communities and propelling the country’s development.
The minister reiterated their essential function in connecting rural India and enhancing national growth.
Reflecting on various welfare measures introduced for postal staff, Scindia highlighted initiatives such as the inclusion of GDS children in Kendriya Vidyalayas, increments in allowances, the launch of new uniform designs, and Project Arrow. He stressed that these initiatives stem from the government’s dedication to engaging and empowering its field workforce.
With a remarkable presence of over 1.65 lakh post offices catering to nearly 6.5 lakh villages, the Minister advocated for evolving the Department into a cutting-edge logistics and service powerhouse, fueled by innovation, reliability, and a robust value-driven approach.
Recalling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Dakiya ab bank laya,” he underscored how India Post has progressed beyond mere mail delivery to serve as a reliable catalyst for financial inclusion and citizen services, while steadfastly upholding its core ethos of “Seva Bhav” — serving the people.
During the event, the Union Minister personally engaged with each award recipient, assisting them in donning the new India Post jacket, cap, and postman bag, symbolizing dignity, identity, and pride in the postal profession.
Moreover, the AI-driven Bhashini platform, developed under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), was showcased at the event. This initiative epitomizes the government’s vision of leveraging artificial intelligence to bridge linguistic and cultural gaps, moving closer to an inclusive and multilingual Digital India.
