He highlighted the expansive reach of India Post’s financial services, indicating that there are currently more than 38 crore Post Office Savings Bank accounts with total deposits nearing Rs 22 lakh crore.
Scindia reiterated that the postal network is crucial in enhancing access to banking and financial services, particularly in rural and semi-urban locales.
Furthermore, he shared that India Post is modernizing to boost its logistics and parcel delivery functions, driven by increasing demands from e-commerce, MSMEs, and agricultural exports.
The Minister pointed out that with its extensive network of over 1.65 lakh post offices, India Post boasts one of the most extensive service networks in the country, remaining a vital institution for last-mile delivery.
He mentioned ongoing efforts to enhance efficiency through technology integration, which includes digital tracking systems, modern parcel hubs, improved routing, and the use of electric vehicles.
These initiatives aim to evolve India Post into a modern, tech-driven logistics and distribution framework while preserving its core strength of human interaction.
Scindia further accentuated the significance of Gramin Dak Sevaks in building trust and ensuring effective service delivery across diverse and geographically complex regions, contributing to the bolstering of the postal system and national financial inclusion initiatives.
