Bengaluru, Oct 16 (NationPress) The Karnataka Police have detained an individual for allegedly threatening Priyank Kharge, the Minister for RDPR, IT, and BT, regarding his suggestion to prohibit the activities of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in public areas.
The suspect was apprehended in Latur, Maharashtra, on Thursday.
Identified as Danappa Naroni, also known as Danesh, he hails from the Solapur district in Maharashtra. This arrest was executed through a collaborative effort by the Kalaburagi district police and the Bengaluru Police. Officials reported that after making a threatening and abusive phone call to Minister Kharge, the suspect fled his hometown and was residing in Latur.
Authorities are transporting him to Bengaluru for further inquiries, with his arrival expected in the state capital later tonight.
An FIR was lodged at the Sadashivanagar police station in Bengaluru following the threat call. The accused, claiming to be associated with the RSS, challenged Minister Kharge's right to comment on the organization. He further asserted that despite his 30 to 40 years of experience, the RSS has a legacy that spans centuries. Additionally, he mocked Kharge’s father, AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, suggesting he might one day refer to Rahul Gandhi as Priyanka Gandhi.
Minister Kharge released a 2.12-minute clip addressing the situation, wherein he questions whether the individual was trained to use abusive language at RSS meetings.
Kharge stated, “If they believe that threats and insults will intimidate me, they are simply mistaken.”
In response to Minister Kharge’s assertions regarding the threats he received about his proposal to ban RSS activities, BJP State President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra remarked that Kharge is merely seeking publicity.
During a press conference in Chitradurga, Vijayendra commented on the threat calls to Priyank Kharge, suggesting such claims are merely strategies for attention.
“It is absurd to think that the RSS can be banned today. I respectfully ask Minister Priyank Kharge—what achievements have you made in your Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RDPR) role that you can present to the public?” Vijayendra questioned.
