Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 29 (NationPress) The dispute surrounding the missing golden pedestal of the Dwarapalaka idol at Sabarimala has deepened following its recovery from the residence of Unnikrishnan’s sister. This revelation has sparked allegations of a conspiracy and demands for a comprehensive investigation.
On Monday, Devaswom Minister V.N. Vasavan expressed serious concerns regarding the unfolding events.
“Unnikrishnan had reported the pedestal as missing, only for it to reappear in his relative’s home. This situation is highly suspicious, and his integrity is questionable,” the Minister declared.
Vasavan indicated that the case would be evaluated based on judicial proceedings, and subsequent actions would follow suit.
The pedestal was found during an inquiry conducted by the vigilance division of the Travancore Devaswom Board.
The Minister suggested that the act of hiding the pedestal and subsequently declaring it lost hinted at a potential conspiracy.
“Given the circumstances, it is hard to accept Unnikrishnan’s explanation,” he emphasized, reiterating that all matters pertaining to Sabarimala are being handled with utmost transparency.
Former president of the Travancore Devaswom Board, A. Padmakumar, who initially brought the issue to light, also commented, insisting that the Vigilance Department must investigate to dispel any uncertainties.
“Neither Unnikrishnan nor Vasudevan stood to gain from the pedestal's disappearance. The reasons behind this must be thoroughly examined,” Padmakumar stated.
He elaborated that upon the introduction of a new pedestal, it was discovered that it did not align correctly with the idol.
“When it was returned, the Devaswom officials were responsible for maintaining the appropriate records. I trust they managed it correctly,” he added.
Clarifying his stance, Padmakumar affirmed that all actions at that time were executed by the Thiruvabharanam Commissioner and other officials, noting that he had no personal connection to Unnikrishnan.
As the controversy persists, the matter awaits deliberation in court, which will assess the vigilance report before determining further actions.
Currently, both the state government and former Devaswom leadership are advocating for clarity, with a focus on ensuring accountability and transparency in temple administration.
