Chandigarh, Jan 17 (NationPress) The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) is set to launch a campaign aimed at achieving a target of 25 lakh new members as part of its organizational elections, as stated by party leader Daljit Singh Cheema on Friday.

He mentioned that all preparations are underway to kick off the membership drive on January 20.

These preparations include the printing of materials for distribution among party members and establishing the rules and regulations for the drive in accordance with constitutional guidelines.

Cheema emphasized, "The party is dedicated to conducting a sincere membership drive, which will be validated by party observers under the oversight of chief election officer Gulzar Singh Ranike."

He added that training sessions will be organized for the appointed observers to ensure that the entire process is executed smoothly and fairly.

In addition, the party has pledged to reach out to the public and reveal how Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the state Cabinet have neglected their responsibilities by relocating to Delhi.

Cheema expressed concern over the entire Cabinet being camped in Delhi, stating, "Not only the Cabinet, but even senior officials have been summoned to Delhi to support the party’s election efforts. The state’s financial resources are being utilized for this campaign. Agitating farmers have also been abandoned, with the Chief Minister failing to address their issues with the Prime Minister, putting the life of fasting farm leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal at risk. Meanwhile, the AAP government appears incapable of safeguarding the state's rights, especially regarding the dilution of Chandigarh's ownership."

The SAD leader called for a special Assembly session to deliberate on critical issues and the proposed framework on agricultural marketing, which he claims the Centre intends to use to reintroduce the three contentious farm laws through indirect means.
