Samajwadi Party to Independently Contest BMC Elections in Maharashtra: Abu Azmi

Nagpur, Dec 18 (NationPress) The President of the Samajwadi Party (SP) in Maharashtra, Abu Azmi, declared on Tuesday that the party will participate in the forthcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections as an independent entity, without any coalition with other parties in the state.
When questioned about his decision to separate from the former opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, Azmi stated: "We are secular individuals. The Babri Masjid demolition was a significant incident, and while the court labels those responsible as criminals, some members of the MVA support the court's ruling. This contradicts the essence of the Constitution, and the Samajwadi Party cannot align with such individuals. This was a topic of discussion with SP President Akhilesh Yadav, leading to the decision for the party to contest the BMC elections independently."
In light of issues raised during the Winter session of the Maharashtra Assembly, the SP leader remarked, "Today, we brought attention to the plight of bus drivers in the state. Recently, 43 individuals were injured, and eight lost their lives in a bus accident in Kurla. It was found that the driver lacked proper training. Additionally, one person died in an accident within my constituency, Mankhurd Shivaji Nagar. Numerous social media users accused the bus of carrying liquor under its seats. This is gross negligence leading to loss of life. We are demanding the blacklisting of the company responsible for training the drivers and pursuing a murder case against them."
On the comments made by Nationalist Congress Party (NCP-SP) leader Sharad Pawar regarding dissatisfaction with the Cabinet expansion in Maharashtra, Azmi remarked: "Ajit Pawar is a member of the ruling MahaYuti alliance. He serves as the Deputy Chief Minister, yet he is hardly visible."
Addressing concerns about the allocation of cabinet positions by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in the MahaYuti government, the SP leader stated: "This decision lies with the Chief Minister. The BJP-Shiv Sena-NCP coalition is aware of what is best for them. I assert that whoever holds power must ensure justice for all societal members, as they have taken an oath under the Constitution."
