Mumbai, April 29 (NationPress) The Samajwadi Party has urged Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar to implement a ban on all groups, regardless of their religious affiliations, that are involved in spreading hatred, inciting violence, threatening the public, calling for economic boycotts, and dividing communities based on faith, religion, region, and language.
Additionally, they asserted that the fundamental rights and freedoms of every citizen to engage in business, trade, and occupation must be safeguarded by the state in accordance with its constitutional responsibilities.
The party emphasized that an atmosphere of peace and justice must be established in the state, as mandated by the Constitution.
The Samajwadi Party specifically requested the support of the Mumbai Police Commissioner following the recent attacks on Muslims in areas such as Dadar, Vakola, Vikhroli, and Nalasopara, which have contributed to a hostile environment after the Pahalgam terror incident.
In a letter sent to the Mumbai Police Commissioner, Abu Azmi, the Mumbai chief of the Samajwadi Party, noted that there has been a significant increase in false propaganda, hate speech, and unwarranted police complaints against masjids, dargahs, and Muslim vendors. This trend is fostering discord among various religious groups and escalating communal tensions within the state.
The Samajwadi Party further highlighted that minorities, particularly Muslims, are feeling increasingly vulnerable due to the growing aggression from extremist factions across Maharashtra.
“Fanatic individuals and organizations in the state, including Minister Nitesh Rane and others, have cultivated a toxic atmosphere that threatens the lives, liberties, properties, fundamental rights, and human rights of Muslims in Maharashtra,” the party expressed.
They have called for action against the perpetrators and organizations in accordance with the Supreme Court's ruling on the hate speech case.
“We demand that the rule of law and justice be upheld transparently by holding those who undermine peace and the Constitution accountable, ensuring that such lawbreakers receive the most severe punishments. These measures will help restore the confidence of minorities, marginalized communities, and secular individuals in the law, administration, and government,” Azmi stated in his letter.
Previously, activists from the Samajwadi Party staged a protest at Azad Maidan.
