Lucknow, April 30 (NationPress) Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Mayawati on Wednesday called upon all political factions to set aside their differences and present a united front in backing the BJP-led Central government regarding the response to the Pahalgam terror attack, which resulted in the tragic loss of 26 innocent lives.
This appeal emerged amidst escalating political tensions and internal party directives in the wake of the incident.
In a message posted on X, Mayawati remarked, "All parties must come together to support the government in every action regarding the Pahalgam terror attack. Engaging in dirty politics by distributing posters and making statements is only sowing confusion among the populace, which is detrimental to the nation."
She further cautioned the Congress and Samajwadi Party, indicating that any disrespect towards Dr. B.R. Ambedkar would elicit a robust response from the BSP.
"The architect of the Indian Constitution, the esteemed Baba Saheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, deserves utmost respect. The SP and Congress must heed this warning, or BSP may take to the streets in protest against them," she stated.
Mayawati's comments followed a controversy surrounding a now-deleted post by the Congress on X, which faced backlash from the BJP.
The contentious post depicted a man in a kurta-churidar missing his neck and head, captioned, "Jimmedari ke samay-- GAYAB (Invisible at the time of responsibility)," which the BJP claimed resembled 'Sar tan se juda' imagery targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In response to the criticism, the Congress removed the post and directed its members to refrain from making hasty remarks regarding the Pahalgam terror attack.
The party clarified that only statements from party president Mallikarjun Kharge, senior leader Rahul Gandhi, and authorized AICC office-bearers would convey its official stance.
Congress general secretary K.C. Venugopal stressed that any deviation from the party's established position would be regarded as a serious violation of discipline.
He reiterated that the party had expressed its "deep anguish over the heinous terrorist attack in Pahalgam" and extended "unwavering solidarity with the nation during this time of mourning."
Venugopal concluded, "At this critical juncture, when our collective resolve is being tested, the Indian National Congress must exhibit unity, maturity, and responsibility — traits that have characterized its service to the nation, whether in governance or opposition."
