Mayawati Urges HM Shah to Reconsider His Remarks on Babasaheb

Lucknow, Dec 19 (NationPress) Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Mayawati on Thursday insisted that Union Home Minister Amit Shah must take back his contentious remarks about Dr B.R. Ambedkar.
During a press conference in Lucknow, Mayawati emphasized that the supporters of Babasaheb will not forgive Amit Shah, asserting that the BJP’s efforts to manipulate Dalit sentiments are destined to fail.
Mayawati accused the Congress of being hypocritical, claiming: "The Congress has repeatedly shown disrespect towards Babasaheb Ambedkar. Babasaheb himself advised Dalits to avoid the Congress party."
She further claimed that the Congress aimed to diminish Ambedkar’s historical contributions, particularly his vital role in the Constitution's formulation. "It was (BSP founder) Kanshi Ram Ji who continued Babasaheb’s unfinished work," she stated.
The BSP leader criticized the BJP for purportedly exploiting Dalit votes without genuinely honoring Babasaheb. "Both parties employ deceptive strategies, and Dalits must remain alert to their tactics," she warned.
Mayawati declared that the Bahujan Samaj Party is the true champion of Dalit rights, devotedly working for their advancement. "Dalits will not be swayed by the superficial politics of these parties," she urged, calling for unity and vigilance within the community.
The remarks made by the Union Home Minister have triggered extensive protests, with opposition leaders organizing demonstrations in response.
In the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, members of the Samajwadi Party disrupted proceedings on Thursday, brandishing images of Dr Ambedkar and chanting slogans. Despite the commotion, the supplementary budget was approved before the assembly was adjourned indefinitely.
Before the adjournment, UP Finance Minister Suresh Khanna claimed that the BJP has shown the utmost respect for Babasaheb by establishing Panch Teerth (five sacred sites) in his honor. "Conversely, the Opposition has disrespected Dr Ambedkar by amending the Preamble of the Constitution he authored," he added.
The Assembly Speaker reiterated the importance of honoring Dr Ambedkar’s legacy, urging the Opposition to address significant issues like farmers’ welfare. "Everyone respects Baba Saheb. The entire state is observing. I implore the Opposition to uphold his legacy and engage in constructive discussions."
