Lucknow, Feb 20 (NationPress) Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Mayawati on Thursday dismissed Congress chief Rahul Gandhi’s call for a consolidated opposition against the BJP, accusing the Congress of double standards in its dealings with her party.
Reacting to Gandhi’s statements, Mayawati utilized X to critique the Congress's political maneuvers.
"In regions where Congress is influential or holds power, it displays hostility and a casteist attitude towards BSP and its supporters. Yet in Uttar Pradesh, where Congress is weak, it suddenly begins discussing a potential alliance with BSP. If this isn't hypocrisy, then what is?" she stated.
The former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh further claimed that past collaborations with Congress have been detrimental to the BSP. "Each time BSP has partnered with casteist entities like Congress in UP and other regions, our core voter demographic shifted to them, but their votes have never returned in the BSP's favor. This has continuously resulted in defeats for our party," she pointed out.
Mayawati reiterated her criticisms of both Congress and the BJP, accusing them of opposing the principles of Dr B.R. Ambedkar and the welfare of Dalit-Bahujan communities.
"The actions, character, and policies of both Congress and BJP have consistently been against Baba Saheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, his adherents, and the BSP’s leadership. Their opposition to reservation and the rights of Dalit-Bahujans has hindered the nation from achieving the egalitarian vision laid out in the Constitution," she elaborated.
Her remarks followed Gandhi's comments during his visit to Raebareli, where he labeled BSP as the “B-team of the BJP” and encouraged Mayawati to join forces with Congress and the Samajwadi Party (SP) to challenge the ruling party.
While engaging with Dalit youth in his constituency, Gandhi addressed inquiries regarding Mayawati’s political position. "There are questions about why Bahenji (Mayawati) is not mounting a robust opposition against the BJP. We wish for her to join us in our fight. If Congress, SP, and BSP unite, the BJP will have no chance," he asserted.
