New Delhi, Jan 16 (NationPress) The Congress party expressed strong criticism towards BSP leader Mayawati following her announcement to participate in the upcoming elections independently. Party spokesperson Surendra Rajput accused her of tacitly supporting “anti-constitutional forces.”
Rajput questioned the logic behind her comments regarding potential alliances, demanding further explanation.
“No political entity has reached out to show interest in collaborating with Mayawati for the elections. This includes neither the Congress nor the Samajwadi Party, nor has there been any communication from the INDIA bloc. So, who exactly is Mayawati referring to? Mayawati ji should shed light on this,” Rajput remarked.
“If you wish to run in the elections solo, we wish you success. However, your manner of contesting elections and the way you commend the Bharatiya Janata Party during your rallies raises concerns about your support for anti-constitutional forces,” he added.
The Congress' response follows Mayawati's declaration on her 70th birthday that the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) will independently contest all elections nationwide, including the pivotal 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, with aspirations to secure a majority government in the state.
At a press conference in Lucknow, the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh reiterated her party's independent approach, asserting that it is “more suitable” to participate in both minor and major elections without forming alliances. She highlighted her party’s history of upholding dignity, fair representation, and secure livelihoods for all communities, including Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, and farmers.
Moreover, she directly appealed to the Brahmin community, urging them to not be misled by the Congress, BJP, or Samajwadi Party.
Rajput also commented on the Supreme Court's request for responses from both parties in the Kolkata I-PAC raid case, stating: "A response is certainly warranted. It should be presented to the Supreme Court to ascertain the truth as per the Constitution. The government and Mamata Banerjee must clarify how the ED, acting under the influence of the Bharatiya Janata Party, is attempting to seize documents from other political entities."
