Lucknow, Jan 15 (NationPress) The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) President and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Mayawati, launched a fierce attack on the Congress party, alleging that it is working to dismantle the reservation system. During a press conference at the BSP headquarters, coinciding with her 69th birthday, she accused Congress of consistently neglecting the rights of marginalised communities, specifically the Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC).
Mayawati expressed concern that these communities are not fully benefiting from the existing reservation policies.
She further accused Congress of historically disrespecting Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Indian Constitution, and other significant leaders from marginalised backgrounds.
“The Congress has consistently undermined Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, and their recent actions indicate a desire to abolish reservation entirely,” she asserted.
The BSP leader also alleged that Congress members have made remarks suggesting their opposition to reservation.
“At this point, Congress is merely pretending to support the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Baba Saheb. Their duplicity is clear as they attempt to present themselves as advocates for the marginalised, while their actions tell a different story,” she added.
While not directly referencing Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Mayawati criticized the Congress for superficial gestures like displaying the Constitution and donning blue attire—symbols associated with Dr. Ambedkar—to attract SC, ST, and OBC voters.
In addition to targeting Congress, Mayawati also criticized the BJP and the Samajwadi Party (SP) for misleading the electorate through various strategies. She urged SC, ST, and OBC communities to remain alert against these parties’ tactics.
“These parties aim solely to manipulate the votes of marginalised communities without any real commitment to their welfare,” she emphasized.
Reflecting on her government’s accomplishments, she claimed that her administration had launched numerous welfare initiatives benefiting laborers, traders, unemployed individuals, women, youth, and the differently abled.
She accused other state governments of copying these programs without giving due credit.
In addressing party members, Mayawati stressed the importance of fortifying the BSP to achieve electoral victories in Delhi and Bihar. She expressed confidence that if elections were conducted impartially, the BSP would achieve considerable success.
She also called on voters from marginalised communities to unite under the BSP banner, which would ensure the party's revival in Uttar Pradesh and its expansion into other states.
