New Delhi, Feb 18 (NationPress) Bahujan Samaj Party leader Mayawati criticized the Congress party on Tuesday, asserting that it can never genuinely embody Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar's principles and policies.
Her comments were triggered by controversial statements made by Congress member and former MP Udit Raj, who allegedly issued death threats against her.
In a statement on X, she remarked that Congress has never honored Ambedkar, and despite the numerous programs it claims to implement in his name, they lack substance as they are merely politically motivated.
She stated in Hindi (translated): "The Congress party, which has consistently disregarded the humanitarian efforts of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar for the dignity of countless oppressed Dalits/Bahujans, both during his life and posthumously, cannot be seen as true or trustworthy regarding his ideals. Thus, regardless of the number of events organized by Congress under slogans like 'Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Mandal, Jai Samvidhan', the followers of Baba Saheb will not be misled. They are aware of their rights and are determined to be self-sufficient.
The BSP leader also warned Dalits to be wary of individuals within their community who exploit the cause for personal gain. She stated, "The Bahujan Samaj must be vigilant against opportunists and self-serving Dalits who make unfounded claims to please their benefactors and should not take such statements seriously as they lack understanding of the 'social change and economic liberation' movement.
During an event in Lucknow, Udit Raj reportedly stated that Mayawati had "suffocated the social movement" and that it was time to "suffocate her." This controversial statement has ignited a debate and raised security concerns for the BSP leader.
Mayawati's nephew and BSP member Akash Anand called for legal action against Udit Raj in a post on X on Monday. "I urge @uppolice to arrest these criminals within 24 hours and take strict legal action; otherwise, the Bahujan youth will not remain silent. I am well aware of how to teach them a lesson."
He commented in Hindi that some former associates of Kanshiram Saheb, who have shifted allegiance between parties, are using Udit Raj's remarks to undermine the movement.
"Udit Raj is notorious for seeking opportunities in different parties for his personal gain. His concern for the Bahujan movement seems to be a means to secure a position as an MP or MLA, rather than genuinely uplifting the Bahujan community," he added.
He condemned the language used by Udit Raj, stating, "I am a young soldier of the Bahujan Mission, and I comprehend the ideals of Baba Saheb and Manyavar Saheb more than he does. The threats implied in his words are utterly unacceptable to us and to the millions standing with the Bahujan Mission. In his selfishness, this sycophant forgets the mission and threatens our Mayawati, who has empowered millions of Dalits and the marginalized with political authority," Anand concluded.
