Mayawati Criticizes Rahul Gandhi's Parbhani Visit, Claims Congress Only Remembers Dalits in Crisis

Lucknow, Dec 23 (NationPress) The chief of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Mayawati, made a pointed remark at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi regarding his visit to the violence-stricken Parbhani in Maharashtra. She accused him of going there solely to shed crocodile tears and charged the Congress with a long-standing casteist and dismissive approach towards Dalits and backward classes.
In a post on X on Monday, Mayawati stated, "The unfortunate events like those in Parbhani are a direct consequence of disrespect towards the original architect of the Indian Constitution, the highly esteemed Babasaheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, and the prevailing sense of inferiority among his millions of followers. It is evident that both the Congress and the BJP are not genuine well-wishers of these communities, as their intentions and policies are fundamentally flawed.”
Commenting on Gandhi's visit, Mayawati remarked, "His trip to Parbhani is merely a facade of sympathy, as the Congress has consistently displayed a casteist and contemptuous approach to the interests of Babasaheb and his followers, both during his life and posthumously. They acknowledge Dalits and backward classes only in times of crisis.”
During his brief visit to Parbhani, Rahul Gandhi is expected to meet the grieving families of Somnath Vyankat Suryawanshi, a 35-year-old LL.B. student, and another Dalit social worker, Vijay Wakode, who tragically died from a heart attack while trying to control the violent mobs on December 11-12.
The BSP leader also called for a peaceful nationwide demonstration at district headquarters to demand the retraction of alleged anti-Ambedkar comments made in Parliament. "Society must come together to ensure the success of these protests," she urged, cautioning against deceptive politics conducted in the name of Ambedkar.
Mayawati reaffirmed her party's dedication to its Ambedkarite mission, stating, "The BSP's self-respect movement is focused on politically empowering the 'Bahujan Samaj', while other parties merely feign support for Ambedkar's legacy to gain political advantage. Their actions are duplicitous—Ram on their lips, but a knife poised behind their back.”
The BSP has scheduled a nationwide protest on December 24 in response to Home Minister Amit Shah's controversial remarks about Dr Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar in Parliament, which they argue disrespected the architect of India's Constitution.
