Why Did Udit Raj Criticize BSP Supremo Mayawati Over 'Dirty Politics' Remarks?

New Delhi, April 30 (NationPress) Congress leader Udit Raj has sharply criticized Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati after her call for political unity following the Pahalgam terror attack. He accused her of indirectly supporting the BJP and suggested she join the saffron party if her admiration for it is so strong.

Udit Raj stated, “Mayawati should refrain from taking on the disgraceful task of defending the BJP. The poster she mentioned has already been taken down by the BJP. If she has such affection for the BJP, she should officially join it.”

He criticized her for continuously attacking the Congress, stating, "Why bring Congress into everything? Dr. Ambedkar doesn’t belong to a single party. Does Mayawati believe she alone has the right to discuss his legacy? The Congress has already been weakened by Modi government’s propaganda and BSP’s narratives. This has been a trend for four decades,” he remarked.

Udit Raj’s comments were in response to Mayawati’s post on X (formerly Twitter), where she called for unity among political parties to support the government after the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians.

In her X post, Mayawati wrote, “All parties should unite and back the government in every measure taken regarding the Pahalgam terror attack. Engaging in dirty politics under its guise by putting up posters and making statements only confuses the populace, which is detrimental to the nation.”

Udit Raj also voiced his thoughts on the government’s approach to tackling terrorism.

“The Congress party has provided full backing to the government. The Congress Working Committee has made it clear that we stand united with the government. But what has the PM Modi government accomplished? From the Uri army base attack, Pathankot airbase, Pulwama, and now Pahalgam, terror attacks have persisted,” he commented.

“The government has been granted a free hand, yet it must take decisive action. There is no alternative left now except for a robust response,” he added.

Regarding the demolitions of madrasas near the Nepal-Uttar Pradesh border, Udit Raj expressed concern that the actions may be driven by religious bias.

“If they were constructed illegally, that’s a different matter. However, if madrasas are being targeted solely because they belong to Muslims, that is unacceptable. Additionally, when these madrasas were being built, where were the government officials? If action is to be taken, it should also involve those officers, employees, and police who allowed it to occur. No illegal structure arises without administrative oversight,” he concluded.
