New Delhi, Feb 18 (NationPress) The BJP and JD(U) have expressed strong disapproval of Congress leader Udit Raj's controversial remarks regarding Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati, alleging that the Congress is insulting Dalits.

The JD(U) has asserted that the demeanor of Congress leaders is deteriorating due to panic and frustration.

The uproar began following Udit Raj's comments on Monday during an event in Lucknow, where he suggested that Mayawati should be "throttled" for allegedly suppressing social welfare movements.

BJP National Spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain stated, "The Congress is insulting Dalits with this statement. They are belittling a significant Dalit leader like Mayawati. It’s time to throttle the Congress party as well. The Congress is indulging in the politics of strangulation, which will have severe repercussions for them."

JD(U) leader Rajeev Ranjan Prasad also condemned Raj's statement, remarking, "The tone of Congress leaders is deteriorating due to panic and frustration. Such remarks are unacceptable in any democratic society. This is profoundly insulting.

"Politically, we may disagree, but Mayawati ji, who has served as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh numerous times, has established a strong foundation for her party. To suggest strangling her is a disgraceful and unfortunate statement. The entire nation must condemn this in the strongest terms."

Udit Raj's remarks ignited controversy after he accused Mayawati of "strangling social welfare movements" and claimed that "the time had come to strangle her."

Mayawati promptly responded, accusing the Congress of perpetually neglecting the "humanitarian struggle" of Dalit icon Dr BR Ambedkar, who advocated for the dignity of oppressed Dalits.

Raj's comments were met with a fierce backlash from Mayawati, who stated, "The Congress, which has always dismissed Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar's fight for the self-respect and dignity of millions of oppressed Dalits and Bahujans, can never align with his ideology and policies."

Mayawati, whose party has encountered electoral challenges in Uttar Pradesh and nationally, also accused Congress of exploiting Ambedkar's legacy for political gains.

"No matter how many initiatives the Congress launches in the name of 'Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Mandal, Jai Samvidhan' for political and electoral benefits, the followers of Babasaheb will not be deceived. They are aware and vigilant, and they are striving to achieve their own empowerment," she asserted.
