Sambhal Unrest: Woman Arrested for Stone-Pelting at UP Police

Lucknow, Jan 6 (NationPress) More than a month following the intense protests that shook Sambhal city, the Uttar Pradesh police apprehended a woman identified as Zikra on Monday. She was allegedly seen throwing stones at law enforcement from the rooftop of her residence.

Her involvement in stone-pelting was confirmed by the UP Police after thoroughly reviewing viral footage.

Upon identifying the woman, the UP police executed raids to secure her arrest.

Zikra hails from the Hindupura Kheda area.

So far, the police have already detained three women linked to the stone-pelting incidents during the violence, and they have been remanded to custody, according to reports.

The unrest erupted in Sambhal on November 24 during a court-ordered survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid. Members of the Muslim minority protested against the ASI survey, leading to violent confrontations with the police.

As footage of the disturbances spread across social media, several veiled women were also observed engaging in stone-pelting against the police.

The mob clashed with law enforcement, resulting in arson, vandalism, and damage to public property. The clashes resulted in the deaths of three individuals and injuries to over thirty police officers. In response to the violence, the police apprehended more than 52 individuals for their involvement in the chaos.

During the turmoil on November 24, numerous senior police officials sustained injuries, including SP K.K. Vishnoi and CO Anuj Chaudhary.

Recently, UP police made a significant breakthrough by capturing a key suspect from Delhi's Seelampur.

This suspect, Salim, allegedly fired a shot at CO Anuj Chaudhary during the Sambhal unrest and subsequently fled to the capital, where he concealed himself in the Seelampur area. Police were able to recover a 12-bore pistol along with live ammunition from him.
