Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, Nov 5 (NationPress) Sanjay Chaudhary – known as the ‘honey man’ of Bhagalpur – is attracting significant attention from both local residents and officials due to his remarkably successful honey business. Chaudhary, who resides in Amarpur village in the Bihpur block of Naugachia region, boasts an impressive annual income of Rs 6 crore from honey production.
Recently, he welcomed a notable guest to his home, Sanjay Seth, the Minister of State for Defence, who not only visited him but also indulged in tasting his organic honey.
In an interview with IANS, Chaudhary revealed that he capitalized on a government initiative called ‘Agricultural Scientists at Your Doorstep.’
Initially, he secured a loan of Rs 50,000 from the Central Agricultural Cooperative Societies (KCC) to place 50 boxes in a litchi orchard for honey production. As his interest in beekeeping grew and he witnessed the profits, he pursued training to enhance his skills.
His mentor, Ramashish Singh, an agricultural scientist, guided him in this venture. Dr. Mewalal Choudhary, the former Vice Chancellor of Bihar Agricultural University, provided financial support and education on beekeeping techniques.
Under the guidance of his mentor, Singh encouraged him to expand his business and create job opportunities.
Currently, Sanjay Chaudhary earns Rs 6 crore annually and employs 30 individuals.
“As my earnings grew and awareness spread, I became a beekeeping trainer, offering courses at Krishi Vigyan Kendras across 38 districts in Bihar,” he shared.
“When the Nitish Kumar government introduced the Agriculture Road Map in 2008, I was recognized as a progressive farmer, which fueled my motivation further,” he added.
Chaudhary asserts that Bihar has emerged as the second-largest honey producer in India.
MoS Sanjay Seth praised the dedication and resilience of honey farmers like Chaudhary, emphasizing that the environment is favorable for aspiring beekeepers.
