Kolkata, Sep 27 (NationPress) The organizer of the Santosh Mitra Square Durga Puja in central Kolkata, which was inaugurated on Thursday by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, has accused the Kolkata Police of intentionally limiting visitor access to the puja pavilion.

BJP Councillor of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) and Santosh Mitra Square puja organizer Sajal Ghosh took to social media, stating, "The plan to obstruct the puja is set. Public opinion is our only recourse."

The BJP leader claimed a conspiracy exists to hinder the puja at Santosh Mitra Square, alleging that the police and certain political figures are involved. He pointed out that the police have set up barricades around the entire Sealdah station area, suggesting it was done with intent.

Ghosh further stated, "As a result, visitors are unable to access this puja pavilion, and vehicles cannot enter the vicinity."

He accused the police of deliberately attempting to prevent people from reaching the pandal and redirecting them elsewhere.

Sajal Ghosh mentioned, "The entire region has been cordoned off. People cannot enter from any direction of Sealdah Station. Only those who can breach the barricades may enter the pavilion. The police won't close the madap but are compelling us to do so."

The Santosh Mitra Square puja committee has been among the first to decline the Durga Puja funding offered by the West Bengal government.

This year, the puja committee has introduced 'Operation Sindoor' as its theme, which has received significant acclaim.

According to Ghosh, this action reflects the ruling Trinamool Congress' vendetta to deter visitors from his pandal, which celebrates the central government's achievements in addressing cross-border terrorism and responding to Pakistan through Operation Sindoor.

Previously, the committee had created a Ram Mandir theme for their puja in 2023. The Union Home Minister had inaugurated that year's puja and praised Ghosh's initiative to construct the puja mandap as a replica of the temple in Ayodhya.
