Bengaluru, Sep 27 (NationPress) - On Saturday, Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya announced that the Railways Ministry has given the green light for a new superfast train service between Bengaluru and Mumbai, addressing a demand that has lingered for three decades.
Surya revealed that Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has committed to launching this train, which is expected to ease travel between these two bustling economic centers.
According to Surya, both cities are crucial economic hubs, and recent capacity expansions at their railway stations have made this service feasible.
He emphasized that despite Bengaluru and Mumbai being among India's key economic powerhouses, they were only served by a single train, the Udyan Express, which takes more than 24 hours for the journey.
Surya stated, "This has been a demand for 30 years. Over the past three decades, despite the rapid development of both cities, we have had only one superfast train connecting them. Last year, more than 2.6 million people flew between these cities. This new train will provide a more affordable and convenient travel option for countless citizens."
This announcement is the result of persistent efforts over the past four years, including discussions in Parliament and meetings with senior railway officials, Surya noted.
Commending Surya's dedication, Ashwini Vaishnaw remarked, "I am delighted that Tejasvi ji has continuously followed up on the need for a superfast train between Bengaluru and Mumbai. Thank you, Tejasvi ji, for your relentless advocacy for the people of Bengaluru."
The new service is expected to significantly alleviate congestion and offer a comfortable alternative to flights and buses, further enhancing the economic and social connections between the two metropolitan areas.
On behalf of the people of Karnataka and Kannadigas, Surya expressed his appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Ashwini Vaishnaw for turning this long-awaited dream into reality. He also thanked V. Somanna, Minister of State for Railways, for his valuable support.
This service is anticipated to benefit a vast number of daily commuters, business travelers, and families, while improving connectivity between two of India's most vibrant metropolitan regions.
