Gandhinagar, Oct 11 (NationPress) Sarita Gayakwad, a distinguished athlete hailing from the tribal region of Dang in Gujarat, has achieved remarkable success for her country. However, her path from a secluded village to the global sports stage was filled with challenges, resilience, and crucial support from Narendra Modi, who was the Chief Minister of Gujarat at that time.

Sarita's journey commenced with access to education via Kanya Kelavani, a school enrollment initiative led by Modi aimed at enhancing girls' education in Gujarat.

As she matured, Sarita uncovered her enthusiasm for athletics, showcasing her talents through Gujarat's Khel Mahakumbh, a state-level sports program designed to nurture rural talent.

Reflecting on her modest beginnings, Sarita stated, 'I came from a background where I couldn't even afford a pair of sports shoes. The first gift I ever received was a pair of shoes from Chief Minister Narendra Modi!'

Her outstanding performance at the Khel Mahakumbh earned her a reward of Rs 25,000 from the Gujarat government.

'That Rs 25,000 was a pivotal moment. It set my life on a new path,' she shared.

Her accomplishments led her to a sports hostel, where she benefitted from professional training, medical assistance, and mentorship.

'My life transformed because of Modiji's compassion for girl children. His vision uplifted a tribal girl like me from the forests to the global stage,' Sarita expressed with pride and gratitude.

Sarita later represented India internationally, clinching a gold medal at the Jakarta Asian Games.

Once again, Prime Minister Modi personally recognized and celebrated her success, awarding her Rs 1 crore in acknowledgment of her achievements. With Modi's support, she also secured a position in the Gujarat government.

'During the felicitation event hosted by PM Modi for the Asian Games medalists, he personally recalled knowing me from my early days in Gujarat,' Sarita remembered.
