Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday, 18 June called on students and young job-seekers across the state to align their career plans with four emerging sectors — semiconductors, Artificial Intelligence (AI), green energy, and advanced manufacturing — which his government has identified as the primary drivers of Assam's future employment landscape. The appeal came days after Class 12 examination results were declared, targeting students at a pivotal career-planning juncture.

In a post on social media platform X, the Chief Minister shared an infographic titled 'Preparing Assam's Youth for What's Next', outlining the state government's sectoral employment outlook. 'Your Class 12 results are declared and you are planning your next career move? Here are key sectors which will shape the job market in Assam in the coming days. The opportunities will be limitless, make sure you are ready to grab it,' Sarma wrote.

Key Sectors and What They Offer

According to the infographic, the semiconductor sector is expected to generate new opportunities in chip manufacturing and related industries — a first for the Northeast region. This follows the establishment of the Tata Electronics semiconductor assembly and test facility at Jagiroad in Morigaon district, which has positioned Assam as a significant destination for semiconductor investment.

Artificial Intelligence was highlighted as a rapidly expanding field that would unlock technology and data-driven career paths for young professionals. Green energy — spanning solar, hydro, and clean power projects — was identified as another sector with strong employment potential. Advanced manufacturing, covering skilled factory operations and modern production roles, rounded out the four priority areas.

Assam's Industrialisation Push

The Chief Minister's post reflects a broader strategy the Assam government has pursued over recent years: accelerating industrialisation, investment promotion, and skill development to absorb the state's growing youth population. Officials have consistently argued that ongoing investments in technology, manufacturing, and infrastructure are on course to transform Assam into a major employment hub within the Northeast.
