Guwahati, May 5 (NationPress) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma delivered a powerful message on Monday to those who express support for Pakistan while residing in India and promote peace with its neighboring country.
In a detailed post on X, CM Sarma emphasized that those advocating for dialogue and peace efforts with Pakistan should consider the harsh realities faced by pro-India voices in that country. He pointed out that in Pakistan, any expression of pro-India sentiment, even through a simple social media post, is met with severe repercussions, including imprisonment.
He outlined the plight of pro-India voices in six critical points and urged those in India who seek peace to recognize the truth.
His post stated: “To Those in India Who Invest Time in ‘Aman Ki Asha’ How Pakistan Handles Pro-India Voices: 1. Surveillance & Profiling – Every post, tweet, or article with a pro-India sentiment is monitored by Pakistan’s intelligence agencies, particularly the ISI. – Students, activists, and journalists frequently find themselves on watchlists. 2. Censorship & Takedowns – The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) actively blocks or removes content deemed favorable to India. – Even hashtags promoting peace or dialogue are eradicated without explanation. 3. Legal Intimidation – Under Pakistan’s stringent cybercrime law (PECA), individuals are arrested for expressing anything perceived as 'pro-India.' – Ambiguous charges like 'anti-state' and 'glorifying the enemy' are wielded to silence rational voices. 4. Arrests & Torture – Citizens are often detained by intelligence agencies, tortured, and imprisoned without trial — sometimes for innocuous expressions like a poem, a peace appeal, or a balanced article. 5. Forced Disappearances – Numerous individuals — particularly Baloch, Pashtun, and Sindhi activists — have disappeared without a trace for expressing support for India or challenging Pakistan’s military narrative. – Families endure years of uncertainty, with no clarity or justice. 6. Social Boycott & Threats – Those who advocate for peace or acknowledge India’s achievements face social ostracism, being labeled traitors, and often encounter threats from extremist factions.”
The Chief Minister emphasized that promoting peace talks with India is treated as a criminal offense in Pakistan.
He further stated in his post, “A Message to Our Own: To those in India who insist on espousing ‘Aman ki Asha’ without comprehending the ground realities — recognize this: In Pakistan, discussing peace with India is seen as a crime. In India, discussions about peace with Pakistan are tolerated, debated — even encouraged in mainstream platforms. Idealizing Pakistan while enjoying the freedoms of India is not idealism — it is, at best, ignorance and, at worst, hypocrisy — a betrayal of your own nation.”
It is noteworthy that at least 39 individuals, including an MLA from the AIUDF party, have been detained in Assam for their pro-Pakistan views expressed on social media and other platforms.
