Kolkata, April 19 (NationPress) The collaborative group of both authentic teaching and non-teaching personnel affected by the recent Supreme Court ruling has decided to cancel its planned march to the state secretariat that was set for April 21.
A communication was sent to both Kolkata Police and Howrah City Police by the collaborative group, informing them of the cancellation, as stated by the group leader Asish Khamrui during a media briefing on Saturday.
It has been reported that this decision was reached after a discussion between the group officials and senior members of both Kolkata and Howrah Police.
Khamrui noted that in light of some recent unsettling incidents in West Bengal (Murshidabad), law enforcement officials requested the group to abandon the April 21 plans.
“The police have assured us they will relay our concerns to Chief Secretary Manoj Pant. Thus, taking everything into account, we have opted to cancel our planned march to the state secretariat on Monday,” said Khamrui.
The state secretariat, known as Nabanna, is situated at Mandirtala in the Kolkata-adjacent Howrah district, with security duties handled by both Kolkata and Howrah City Police.
Nonetheless, in the letter sent to the police, which IANS has obtained, the group emphasized that the agitation has been called off “temporarily”. The letter also called for an immediate meeting with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee regarding the issue.
“After thorough discussions with departmental officials and based on the promises made for a constructive and prompt resolution of our issues, we have chosen to temporarily withdraw the proposed program. We remain optimistic about the opportunity to meet with the Honorable Chief Minister soon so that our concerns can be addressed and suitable actions can be taken toward a comprehensive and enduring solution,” the letter stated.
