New Delhi, Oct 30 (NationPress) Union Minister for the Development of the North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya Scindia convened the third review session regarding Manipur’s development strategy on Thursday. The meeting concentrated on evaluating the progress of current initiatives, discovering new avenues for inclusive growth, and aligning the state’s development goals with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for an Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
A key highlight of the discussion was the initiative to rejuvenate Manipur Polo as both a cultural emblem and a chance for international acknowledgment. Scindia revealed intentions to develop world-class training facilities and institutions to re-establish Manipur as India’s Polo Capital.
This initiative is set to enhance sports-related tourism, empower local youth, and elevate the state's cultural identity globally, while linking it with sustainable tourism and rural enterprise.
The Minister also assessed efforts to bolster Manipur’s traditional handloom and handicraft industries. He declared the establishment of 250 mini and 200 mega production units and extended support for Self-Help Groups to empower artisans and weaving communities. These actions, he noted, would help preserve the state’s craft heritage and generate new job opportunities, positioning Manipur as a center for creative enterprise and entrepreneurship.
Scindia further emphasized the necessity of enhancing infrastructure and connectivity, announcing plans to create an Integrated Textile Park along with an Institute of Technology and Design to promote innovation and skill-building.
He highlighted the integration of Vibrant Villages within the PM Gati Shakti framework to improve rural tourism, logistics, and last-mile connectivity.
In the agricultural domain, the Minister reviewed the advancement of palm oil cultivation and set a target of 10,000 hectares over the next four years to promote agricultural livelihoods and self-sufficiency. He also urged officials to accelerate logistics and industrial infrastructure projects to attract more private investment, unlocking Manipur’s economic prospects.
While reviewing the status of ongoing projects, Scindia stressed the urgency for quicker execution and outcome-oriented progress across all sectors.
The Minister reaffirmed that the Ministry of Development of the Northeastern Region (MDoNER) will continue to act as a proactive facilitator to guarantee that development in Manipur remains inclusive, sustainable, and aligned with the aspirations of its populace.
The meeting, attended by Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, senior officials from the Ministry of DoNER, and the Manipur State Government, built on the results of the prior two review meetings held earlier this year.
Through these continued efforts, Scindia reiterated that with its rich cultural heritage, entrepreneurial spirit, and community-driven strength, Manipur is rapidly becoming a beacon of self-reliance and growth under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision.
