New Delhi, Oct 8 (NationPress) A wave of panic swept through Kanpur’s Mishri Bazar area, falling under the jurisdiction of the Moolganj police station, on Wednesday evening when two scooters erupted in flames, resulting in injuries to six individuals, including a woman who is currently battling for her life in critical condition.
The force of the explosion was so intense that it obliterated both scooters, causing significant destruction to nearby shops.
Joint Police Commissioner Ashutosh Kumar informed IANS that the loud explosion startled residents and shopkeepers, subsequently filling the area with smoke and debris.
“At approximately 7:15 p.m., the sound of the explosion reverberated. The SHO, who was patrolling in the vicinity, quickly arrived at the scene and discovered several individuals injured. It appears that the explosion originated from within the two scooters,” Kumar stated.
He further mentioned that the forensic team and bomb disposal unit were promptly dispatched to the site to ascertain the cause of the explosion.
“The area has been sealed off and officials have been alerted. Several nearby shops were impacted; toys and various goods were strewn around, and glass windows were shattered, along with damage to false ceilings,” Kumar noted.
Six individuals were reported injured, including one woman who suffered severe burns and is in critical condition. All victims have been transferred to local hospitals, where their conditions are being closely monitored.
Police teams are meticulously examining the debris and the damaged scooters to investigate the possibility of any explosive materials being involved. “Our teams are engaged in a thorough investigation. We are analyzing the remnants to determine if any explosive substances were present. Only after receiving the forensic report can we confirm the cause,” Kumar remarked.
This incident has raised alarms ahead of the festive season, as Mishri Bazar is a bustling commercial area filled with numerous toy and decorative goods stores.
