Imphal, March 29 (NationPress) A series of coordinated operations led by the Indian Army and other security forces resulted in the recovery of 29 illegally held arms, along with several improvised explosive devices (IEDs), grenades, various ammunition, and war-like stores, as reported by officials on Saturday.
A Defence spokesperson stated that the Army, Assam Rifles, CRPF, BSF, ITBP, and Manipur police have collectively recovered the 29 arms, multiple IEDs, grenades, and assorted ammunition from six districts: Kangpokpi, Tengnoupal, Chandel, Senapati, Jiribam, and Bishnupur.
The arms retrieved include Carbines, Self-Loading Rifles (SLR), AK series rifles, INSAS rifles, Sniper rifles, Single Barrel Bolt Action Rifles, and pistols.
During the operations, security forces employed a range of equipment, including the Deep Search Metal Detector (DSMD). All recovered materials have been turned over to Manipur Police.
This collective action by the security forces underscores their steadfast commitment to upholding peace and security in Manipur, according to a defence release.
A police official noted that joint search operations by various security forces and area domination efforts were carried out in the vulnerable regions of the hill and valley districts.
The forces also ensured security for the unhindered movement of vehicles, including goods-laden trucks, along National Highway-2 (Imphal-Dimapur) and National Highway-37 (Imphal-Jiribam).
Robust security measures have been established across all sensitive locations, with security convoys deployed in critical stretches to ensure safe vehicle movement.
Continuing its crackdown on militant activities in Manipur, security forces apprehended seven militants from various banned outfits over the past few days. The arrested individuals were affiliated with PREPAK and different factions of the Kangleipak Communist Party.
The apprehended militants were implicated in abductions, coercive monetary collection from traders, officials, contractors, and issuing threat notices to the public.
