Imphal, April 15 (NationPress) In a series of coordinated operations, the security forces have confiscated 77 firearms, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), grenades, various types of ammunition, and military supplies, officials reported on Tuesday.
The security forces also apprehended nine militants belonging to different groups.
A Defence spokesperson stated that the Army, Assam Rifles, CRPF, BSF, ITBP, and Manipur Police have, over recent days, seized the 77 firearms, several IEDs, grenades, assorted ammunition, and war-like materials across seven districts: Churachandpur, Bishnupur, Imphal East, Kakching, Jiribam, Kangpokpi, and Imphal West.
The recovered weapons include Carbines, Self-Loading Rifles (SLR), AK series rifles, .303 Light Machine Guns (LMGs), Carbine Machine Guns, .303 Rifles, INSAS rifles, Sniper rifles, Double-barrelled Rifles, Single-barrelled Bolt Action Rifles, and pistols.
The joint operations by security forces have also led to the capture of six members from various extremist factions, with the apprehended militants and seized weapons handed over to the Manipur Police.
“These collaborative efforts by the security forces demonstrate their steadfast dedication to upholding peace and security in Manipur,” the defense official stated.
In separate actions, the Manipur Police detained two militants from the PREPAK faction and a member of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF) from Bishnupur, Jiribam, and Imphal East districts, recovering additional arms and ammunition from them.
An official mentioned that extortion funds amounting to Rs 21.50 lakh were seized from the UNLF militant.
Security forces conducted search operations and area control in the vulnerable regions of hill and valley districts. During these operations, temporary structures of a training camp for Village Volunteers were dismantled in Gelmol village, Churachandpur District.
