Imphal, Sep 11 (NationPress) In anticipation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's potential visit to Manipur on September 13, a senior Army officer has conducted an assessment of the security landscape across various districts, including critical areas along the India-Myanmar border. This was confirmed by officials on Thursday.

A defence spokesperson disclosed that Lieutenant General Abhijit S Pendharkar, General Officer Commanding of Spear Corps, performed an extensive review in Churachandpur district, part of a broader evaluation of the security environment throughout Manipur.

His visit included significant locations such as Imphal, Bishnupur, and the forward regions along the Indo-Myanmar border, demonstrating the Corps' ongoing commitment to maintaining operational readiness and enhancing inter-agency collaboration.

During these engagements, he focused on understanding the current security dynamics, especially in sensitive border areas, while praising the collective efforts of personnel for their professionalism, dedication, and high morale amid difficult circumstances.

This visit illustrated the inclusive strategy adopted by both the Indian Army and the Assam Rifles in managing security and their continuous outreach to veterans and local communities.

The spokesperson noted that Lt Gen Pendharkar also interacted with members from the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Manipur Police, and additional security agencies present in Manipur.

The engagements of the Spear Corps Commander across Manipur reflect a comprehensive approach to security, unity, and institutional coherence, based on professionalism and mutual respect, according to the defence PRO.

During his tour, the Corps Commander met with a combined group of 61 individuals, including Ex-Servicemen, Veer Naris, and active personnel from the Assam Rifles and Indian Army.

This gathering served as a meaningful platform to recognize the contributions of veterans and their families while reinforcing the enduring bond between the armed forces and the communities they serve.

Senior Ex-Servicemen were honored in recognition of their service, with tokens of appreciation presented as symbols of respect and gratitude. The Ex-Servicemen expressed their heartfelt thanks for the interaction, which reaffirmed the esteem and acknowledgment accorded to their service and sacrifices.

On Tuesday, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla convened a meeting with five MLAs from the Kuki-Zo communities in Churachandpur to discuss the Prime Minister's prospective visit on September 13.

Earlier, the Governor met with BJP MLAs from the Imphal Valley region, including former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and BJP state President Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi.

According to an official, Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel, Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh, Director General of Police Rajiv Singh, and Commissioner (Home) N. Ashok Kumar also participated in the meeting.

However, all officials maintained silence regarding the discussions held during the meeting at Raj Bhavan.

Officials and BJP leaders in Manipur have indicated that the Prime Minister's visit has not yet been definitively confirmed by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO). Reports suggest that the Prime Minister will visit Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram, to inaugurate the newly constructed 51.38 km Bairabi-Sairang railway project, before visiting Imphal and Churachandpur in Manipur.

Security and other necessary arrangements are in full swing in Imphal and Churachandpur.

In accordance with security protocols, various restrictions have been implemented in both Imphal and Churachandpur.

Meanwhile, the Churachandpur district administration has banned the use of aerial devices such as drones, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), balloons, and other flying objects across the district ahead of the ‘VVIP visit’.

Churachandpur District Magistrate Dharun Kumar S., in an order, declared the entire hill district a ‘No Drone Zone’ area.
