Patna, June 14 (NationPress) A recent video showcasing a portrait of B.R. Ambedkar, the visionary behind the Indian Constitution, positioned near Lalu Prasad Yadav's feet during his birthday festivities has ignited a storm on social media. The imagery has drawn sharp criticism, particularly from Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) MP Shambhavi Choudhary, who vehemently denounced the incident on Saturday.
In her remarks to IANS, Choudhary accused the RJD of consistently belittling Dalits and disregarding their rights.
“We have been warning since the start—RJD only seeks to mislead the Dalit community while pretending to support them. However, whenever the chance arises, they insult Dalits and their dignity,” she stated.
Choudhary expressed profound disappointment over the video, emphasizing, “For us Dalits, Ambedkar is our guiding star, our deity, and the voice that empowered us. Placing his image at Lalu Yadav's feet is nothing short of utter disrespect. This act deeply wounds the feelings of Dalit and Maha Dalit families.”
She further remarked, “What’s more alarming is that Lalu Yadav remained silent and did not protest when the picture was placed there. His inaction suggests he felt comfortable, perhaps even pleased, with the insult.”
Choudhary urged the people of Bihar to stay alert, especially with the Bihar Assembly elections approaching this year.
“If you genuinely respect Dalits, how can you allow such disrespect towards Ambedkar’s image? This is a moment for reflection for everyone,” she told IANS.
She concluded with a stinging critique of political hypocrisy: “Claiming to fight for Dalits while failing to honor Ambedkar’s image in your own home is hollow. If this doesn’t hurt Dalit sentiments, then what does?”
The BJP has also reacted strongly to the video, labeling it a significant affront to Ambedkar and demanding a public apology from Lalu Yadav.
“This is not mere carelessness — it showcases Lalu Yadav’s anti-Dalit attitude,” stated Danish Iqbal, BJP’s Bihar media head. “Positioning Baba Saheb’s photo at his feet on his birthday is an unforgivable insult.”
BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya criticized Lalu Yadav on social media, asserting, “For decades, Lalu Yadav has portrayed himself as a champion of social justice. Yet, by placing Baba Saheb’s photo at his feet, he has disrespected the symbol of Dalit empowerment. This situation transcends a mere photo — it highlights his attitude towards Dalits.
