New Delhi, Sep 2 (NationPress) Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju criticized Congress on Tuesday for their derogatory remarks aimed at Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor for daring to voice his opinions against the party.
He noted that while there are many leaders in Congress with valuable insights, they often remain silent due to fear of their high command.
After the successful 'Operation Sindoor', Tharoor was appointed to lead an Indian delegation for a significant outreach initiative. Since that time, Congress has consistently made disparaging remarks about him.
In response, Minister Rijiju stated to IANS, "There are numerous capable leaders in Congress, including Shashi Tharoor and others, who prioritize the nation's interests. Many MPs across different parties have innovative thoughts but hesitate to express them in front of their leaders. Shashi sometimes speaks out, but he faces abuse from within Congress, which is unacceptable."
An all-party parliamentary delegation led by Tharoor visited the US, Panama, Guyana, Brazil, and Colombia to showcase India's commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms.
This delegation also highlighted the activities of The Resistance Front (TRF) and Pakistan's ongoing support for terror networks, urging these nations to hold state sponsors of terrorism responsible.
In the aftermath, Congress criticized its own leaders, including MP Manish Tewari and senior figure Salman Khurshid, who had praised the Modi government's actions during their trips abroad.
Moreover, during the 'Operation Sindoor' discussions in the Monsoon Session of Parliament, Congress did not include Tharoor and Tewari among the list of speakers, which further indicated the internal challenges they face for their support of the government.
Both leaders have made it clear that they prioritize national interests over allegiance to their respective parties.
Since the Indian military executed 'Operation Sindoor' in response to the tragic April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives, the Opposition has been demanding detailed accounts of the military's actions.
Additionally, Rijiju recalled the discussions surrounding 'Operation Mahadev', where three terrorists responsible for the Pahalgam tourist shooting were neutralized, noting that the Opposition raised questions about its timing.
When 'Operation Mahadev' was discussed, the entire nation rejoiced; however, Congress leaders remained silent. Our forces eliminated those terrorists, and the whole Parliament should have expressed gratitude towards them and encouraged their efforts. Regrettably, Congress remained seated in silence," he remarked.
Rijiju further accused the Opposition of not supporting the nation's interest, highlighting a Congress leader's disparaging comment about Indian Air Force Group Captain Shukla's successful space mission.
"Upon Shukla's return, a Congress leader stated that his achievement was unremarkable, implying anyone could reach space with financial means. This attitude reflects the Congress party's mindset," he concluded.
