Shiv Sena (UBT) Blasts Government Over LPG Supply Crisis Amid Global Tensions
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, March 17 (NationPress) The Shiv Sena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray (UBT) has sharply criticized the BJP-led administrations at both the Centre and in Maharashtra regarding the recent 'disruption' in LPG supplies, exacerbated by the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict. They stated that while global fuel crises are undeniably affecting many, the government's failure to recognize the struggles of its citizens signifies a serious leadership failure.
In their editorial within the party's publication, 'Saamana', they questioned, “During the pandemic, the public was encouraged to make noise with pots and pans to ward off the virus... Are we now expected to take empty gas cylinders to the streets and bang them to address the fuel crisis?”
The article articulated that as India faces a critical fuel and LPG shortage, the ruling party is under fire for minimizing the severity of the situation. Despite citizens enduring kilometer-long queues for essential supplies, official representatives continue to assert that 'everything is fine', a stance the opposition deems a ‘societal crime’.
It further stated that the sight of long lines for domestic gas cylinders has become increasingly common, with individuals waiting from late night until dawn. Approximately 40% of eateries, restaurants, and food stalls have shut down due to the fuel scarcity. Reports suggest that gas cylinders are being sold on the black market for prices as high as Rs 5,000. Even revered institutions are suffering; in Shirdi, the Sai Baba Sansthan has had to decrease the quantity of its 'prasad' due to the lack of resources.
The editorial indicated that the shortage has now escalated into a security concern in several regions. In Madhya Pradesh, police protection has been stationed at gas warehouses, while in Rajasthan, vehicles transporting gas cylinders are being intercepted on the roadways. Ironically, even in Varanasi (Kashi), the Prime Minister's constituency, the Maa Annapurna Rasoi community kitchen was compelled to cease operations because of the scarcity.
Further intensifying their critique, the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena condemned the BJP for its “confused” management of the crisis.
“While Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis claims that the situation is under control, the government has concurrently issued directives for those with piped gas to surrender their LPG connections—a move interpreted as an acknowledgment of a fuel emergency. Additionally, the prioritization of gas supply for hospitals, crematoria, and educational institutions is perceived as a confirmation of the substantial shortage,” they stated.
“Leaders who fail to be transparent and truthful with the populace demonstrate their ineffectiveness in governing a nation. This is the current state of affairs in India,” they concluded.
