New Delhi, June 29 (NationPress) Following the uproar from the opposition regarding Trinamool Congress leader Madan Mitra’s controversial comments on the Kolkata law student rape case, Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson Anand Dubey issued a condemnation of his remarks, labeling them as unacceptable.
Dubey criticized Mitra’s insinuation that the victim in the Kolkata gang rape incident would not have faced assault had she not engaged with the accused.
Referring to the statement as “extremely regrettable,” Dubey told IANS: “Such remarks are intolerable, and political figures must avoid victim-blaming. We anticipate that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will take this matter seriously and clarify that such opinions do not represent the party’s official viewpoint.”
Stressing the importance of women's freedom, he stated, “Our mothers and sisters should have the ability to move about freely without fear. This issue transcends politics and pertains to law and order.”
It is worth noting that the TMC issued a show-cause notice to Madan Mitra concerning his offensive comments.
On the recent push by the RSS to discuss the inclusion of the terms “secular” and “socialist” in the Constitution’s Preamble, Dubey accused the RSS of attempting to undermine the country’s foundational values.
“The Indian Constitution, which was crafted by Babasaheb Ambedkar, encompasses all religions and communities,” he remarked.
“Being a Hindu is a source of pride, but it is equally essential to respect other faiths. Even Balasaheb Thackeray instilled in us the importance of honoring every religion. Statements like these create divisions in the nation and should be avoided,” he added.
Dubey also expressed grave concerns regarding reports suggesting that the Election Commission is discreetly implementing the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Bihar.
“The EC is behaving like the BJP’s B-team, which is disgraceful,” he claimed. “Why are BJP leaders addressing issues that are meant for the EC? Any decisions regarding the NRC must involve transparent discussions with all stakeholders,” he insisted.
He further noted that covert operations before elections and selective rule changes indicate biased behavior.
“The Prime Minister and Home Minister’s visits just prior to the election code suggest political ulterior motives,” he concluded.
