New Delhi, July 14 (NationPress) As the Indian astronaut and Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla gets ready to return to Earth on July 15, following an 18-day mission aboard the International Space Station (ISS), political figures from various parties, including Shiv Sena (UBT) and BJP, are celebrating this occasion as a significant achievement for both the nation and its aspirations in space exploration.
Shukla's involvement in the Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4) marks him as the first Indian astronaut in over 41 years to visit the ISS. His return journey is set to commence with undocking from the space station at 4:30 PM IST on July 14, aiming for a splashdown in the Pacific Ocean off the California coast at approximately 3:00 PM IST on July 15.
In an interview with IANS, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Anand Dubey described this as a “moment of immense pride” for the country.
“This is a proud moment for all Indians. Shubhanshu Shukla has brought honor to the entire nation. Few individuals on Earth achieve what he has. The excitement for his return is palpable, and we look forward to him sharing invaluable experiences from his time in space,” Dubey remarked.
BJP leader Sanjay Upadhyay echoed these sentiments, highlighting the importance of Shukla's mission for the scientific community.
“This is a proud moment for the entire country, as a scientist like Shubhanshu Shukla returns home after a successful space mission. Students and young scientists are eager to learn from his experiences. The knowledge he has acquired will inspire future generations,” he stated.
BJP MP Agnimitra Paul also praised Shukla's accomplishments, tying them to a broader narrative of national progress.
“This is a proud occasion for all of us. He returns after conducting successful experiments in space. Thanks to the motivation and vision provided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indians across all fields are now achieving global excellence. I congratulate the entire nation on this remarkable achievement,” she told IANS.
Throughout his 18-day mission, Shukla and his Ax-4 crew executed over 60 advanced scientific experiments across various domains including biology, materials science, human health, and artificial intelligence, which are critical to India's future space endeavors.
At least seven experiments were initiated by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), providing crucial data for the Gaganyaan human spaceflight mission. One notable experiment involved photographing six types of crop seeds in microgravity, which will be analyzed genetically post-mission to aid research in space-based agriculture.
During a discussion with Axiom Space Chief Scientist Dr. Lucie Low, Shukla expressed his pride in serving as a link between researchers and the station, stating, “I feel proud to act as a bridge between the researchers and the station—to conduct research on their behalf.”
