Imphal, May 22 (NationPress) A state-wide shutdown lasting 48 hours, initiated by the Meitei community's Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), has significantly disrupted daily life across five to six districts in the valley region of Manipur as of Thursday, according to officials.
Authorities reported that the majority of markets, shops, businesses, educational institutions, and both government and private offices were shuttered, with public transport completely halted in the Meitei community's valley region.
Supporters of COCOMI took to the streets to ensure compliance with the shutdown, urging residents to stay indoors. Protesters also set tyres ablaze at various locations throughout the state capital, Imphal.
Officials confirmed that, up to this point, there have been no significant incidents reported related to the shutdown.
The shutdown commenced at midnight on Wednesday, and its impact was minimal in the Kuki-Zo-Hmar and Naga-dominated hilly regions.
